National Weather Service Fort Worth TX

...New Short Term, Aviation, Long Term...
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Sunny, warm, and rain-free weather will prevail through the
weekend before low thunderstorm chances return over the latter
half of next week.
&&
.SHORT TERM... /NEW/
/Today and Tomorrow/
Yesterday`s cold front has resulted in rather pleasant weather
across North and Central Texas this afternoon. High temperatures
are still 5-10 degrees above normal, in the low 80s for most, but
nice enough to enjoy the evening outdoors. A high pressure ridge
is moving across the I-35 corridor this afternoon and will build
over the Eastern CONUS this weekend. Return flow will set up
tonight and remain in place for the next few days. Humid air is
displaced well into the central Gulf, so it will take some time
for it to get brought this far north. As a result, tomorrow will
be warm, dry and breezy. Areas across West Texas and the Big
Country will be exceptionally warm for this time of the year with
highs peaking about 15 degrees above normal--in the low 90s.

.LONG TERM... /NEW/
/Sunday Onward/
A blocking ridge will develop across the Western CONUS this
weekend and early next week. This will keep North and Central
Texas` weather quiet for most of the Long Term forecast period.
The most notable item to track is the increasing potential for our
first 100 degree day in the forecast area for 2025. Our current
forecast call for areas west of the Metroplex to peak in the upper
90s, just shy of 100 degrees. Most locations near and west of
US-287 and north of I-20 have a 40-60% chance of meeting or
exceeding 100 degrees Sunday afternoon. It will also be dry and
breezy, resulting in an elevated threat of grass fires across the
western parts of our forecast area Sunday.
A shortwave trough Sunday night/Monday will start to break down
the ridge and allow a cold front to move through early next week,
bringing temperatures down to a more rational value Monday and
Tuesday. Since the initial shortwave trough will only weaken the
ridge, its influence will remain in effect for most of next week.
Low rain and storm chances return to parts of North Texas late
Wednesday and continue sporadically through the end of the week.
Since it is spring in North Texas, we`ll have a cap in place and
if storms are able to poke through, they will have severe
potential. If not, expect only showers or no precip at all. It`s
far too soon to know if the cap will hold or break or to get into
specifics regarding convective mode and hazards, but is something
worth monitoring as we head into the early parts of next week.

.AVIATION... /NEW/
/18Z TAFs/
VFR and light ENE flow will prevail through the afternoon. Wind
speeds are light enough that traffic managers could probably swap
to S flow if it helps with aircraft operations. Prevailing SE
flow returns after about 03Z with gusty SSE flow tomorrow
afternoon. VFR and mostly clear skies will prevail through the
valid TAF period.
