Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
456 AM PDT Sun Jul 20 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
* Isolated thunderstorms remain possible across the Eastern Sierra
and northwestern Arizona today while the drying trend continues
elsewhere.
* Dry and breezy conditions return to most of the area and
temperatures remain a few degrees below average through the
week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...Today through Saturday.
The downward trend in moisture continues as the low over southern
California draws dry air into the region. Storms today will mainly
be confined to the eastern Sierra, White Mountains, and high terrain
in northwestern Arizona. Gusty outflow winds and small hail are
possible with these storms, but overall precipitation should be
light. Activity will pick up in the afternoon and decrease in the
evening with a lost of surface heating. An upper level low digging
into the Pacific Northwest will help to increase dry southwesterly
flow early in the week, but lingering moisture leaves the potential
for isolated thunderstorms through Wednesday, mainly in northwestern
Arizona.
Much drier air along with breezy conditions are expected Monday
through Wednesday, raising fire weather concerns. There could be
some areas of elevated fire weather conditions across Nye and
Lincoln counties on Monday. However, fire weather headlines do not
appear necessary at this time. Temperatures will increase as
moisture and cloud cover decrease, but highs still remain a few
degrees below seasonal averages. HeatRisk remains in the minor to
moderate categories, levels that primarily affect those who are
sensitive to heat.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Light
winds will favor the southeast through the morning. Late-morning
into the early-afternoon, south-southeasterly gusts will pick up
between 20 and 25 kts. Winds will veer through the afternoon as
gusts peak between 25 and 30 kts. Gusts decrease in speed and
frequency after sunset, but elevated southwesterly winds between 8
and 12 kts will continue through the evening. Similar winds expected
on Monday. No operationally significant cloud cover through the TAF
period. Temperatures will exceed 100 degrees between 18 and 03Z.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona and
southeastern California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...South-
southeasterly winds will pick up across the region late this morning
into early this afternoon. Las Vegas Valley and Colorado River
Valley TAF sites will veer to the south-southwest through the
afternoon with peak gust speeds between 25 and 30 kts. KBIH will
remain from the south-southeast with similar gust speeds. Slight (10-
20 percent) chance of light shower or thunderstorm activity in the
vicinity of KBIH, which could produce erratic wind gusts. KDAG will
veer to the west in the afternoon with similar gust speeds. No
operationally significant cloud cover through the TAF period.
