.KEY MESSAGES...

* Afternoon showers and thunderstorms continue into the weekend and
  peak on Sunday.

* Warming up through Sunday with moderate HeatRisk for lowest
valleys of northeast California and western Nevada this weekend.

* Typical June warmth favored next week with increasing winds
possibly impacting fire, aviation, and recreation interests
  around midweek.

.DISCUSSION...

A slow-evolving weather pattern will maintain daily chances of
afternoon showers and thunderstorms through the weekend. The
greatest likelihood of thunderstorms today (20-30% odds) continues
to favor the Sierra south of US-50 with lesser chances (10-20%) for
Tahoe and Sierra Front communities (e.g. the Greater Reno-Carson-
Minden area). A very dry sub-cloud layer will support the potential
for strong outflow gusts of 50+ mph this afternoon, along with small
hail and lightning. While slow storm motions are expected amid weak
steering flow, a lack of low-level moisture will preclude greater
flash flooding potential this afternoon. Similar thunderstorm
chances will exist Saturday with perhaps an increase in probability
and coverage on Sunday.

Amplifying high pressure will allow steady warming through Sunday,
resulting in 80 and 90-degree heat this weekend. Moderate HeatRisk
returns to the lowest valleys of northeast California and western
Nevada Saturday and Sunday so be sure to practice your heat
safety precautions if planning weekend outdoor activities. High
pressure will dislodge eastward after Sunday and provides slow
cooling through midweek, although we`ll likely hang on to 80 and
90 degree heat. Periods of increased winds are also becoming
increasingly likely next week as a weak low pressure passes
through the region. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions,
bumpy flights, difficult driving conditions and blow dust, and
hazardous boating conditions are among possible wind impacts next
week.

.AVIATION...

Patchy fog may redevelop in the Martis Valley early this morning,
resulting in a period of IFR/LIFR CIGS/VIS at KTRK between 10-15Z.
Otherwise, VFR conditions and light winds prevail this morning.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected again this afternoon with
best chances of 20-30% favoring the Sierra south of US-50 and 10-20%
chance around the Tahoe Basin and Sierra Front. As such, KMMH and
KTVL have the highest likelihood of a thunderstorm within 10 miles
of each terminal this afternoon.

Confidence in thunderstorm impacts is much lower for all other
terminals today as the weather pattern will likely steer storms
along and west of the Sierra crest. Thus, the most likely outcome is
cumulus build-ups along the surrounding higher terrain. However, the
environment seems at least favorable enough to support a 15-20%
chance of a stray thunderstorm near KTRK, KRNO and other Sierra
Front terminals between 20-03Z.
