.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 330 AM CDT Tue Aug 12 2025
The slow-moving trough that has been responsible for the "pesky"
showers and storms the past couple days will depart the area to
the southeast today. The lingering thunderstorms in northern
Kansas are expected to dissipate by around sunrise. Further
north, light winds and plentiful low-level moisture has allowed
patchy fog to develop, especially in low-lying areas. This fog
will likely persist past sunrise, but increasing northwesterly
winds should mix it out by 8-9am. Skies then gradually clear and
winds turn to the north/northeast as a front pushes through the
area. There is a very low chance (10%) for some isolated
showers or weak storms to develop along this front late this
afternoon in southern parts of the area, but most (if not all)
of the area will stay dry.
Southerly winds return on Wednesday the ridge over the western
CONUS pushes eastward. High temperatures may reach the 90s in
southern and western parts of the area. Wednesday night, a
shortwave will move through the northern Plains, sparking
convection across South Dakota. If these thunderstorms can
develop into a longer-lived line of storms, it is possible
(20% chance) that they they could reach northern portions of
the area late Wednesday night as they are weakening.
The main story on Thursday and Friday is the returning warmth.
Upper-level ridging overhead and southerly flow at the surface
should result in widespread 90s on Thursday and some 100 degree
temperatures (especially in KS) on Friday. Heat index values are
currently expected to be near advisory-level (105 degrees) in
some parts of the area on Friday afternoon.
Saturday may be a touch cooler (1-3 degrees) as the ridge
shifts eastward, but highs are still expected to reach the mid
to upper 90s in most areas. A shortwave arriving from the west
will bring chances for thunderstorms to the area Saturday
evening through Saturday night.
Temperatures remain above normal as we start next week with
daily chances (although fairly uncertain) for thunderstorms.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 1149 AM CDT Tue Aug 12 2025
For KGRI/KEAR Airports:
Cloud free VFR conditions are expected over the next 24-hours
with no chance of precipitation. Light winds will start of the
northwest to north, gradually becoming northeasterly through
the afternoon. Light to calm and variable winds overnight, will
eventually reestablish southerly for Wednesday. There is some
lower end chances that fog could develop in a few isolated areas
given the lighter winds. Confidence at this time remain low to
Medium (30-40%). The best timeframe for fog would lie between
10-14z.
