.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 114 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2024

Short Term (Today & Tomorrow)

Current upper level analysis depicts a closed low traversing
southern Manitoba with low amplitude riding building over the
western CONUS. This leaves the area in predominantly northwesterly
flow aloft. The aforementioned low helped to push a cold front
through the area yesterday. The cold and dry post frontal air mass
will certainly be felt today. Overnight lows this morning are
expected in the mid 40`s to low 50`s. The day will break to highs
mostly in the 70s, a 10 to 20 degree dip from yesterday`s high
temperatures. Dry conditions will continue as afternoon RH values
dip into the 20 to 25 percent range. Elevated fire weather concerns
will be present as afternoon wind gusts may exceed 25 mph in
northeast NE and western IA. Although winds will be too low to
consider fire weather headlines, the continued dry conditions should
bring increased caution for fire weather concerns. Fire weather
potential for each individual day will be dependent on wind speeds.

Dry conditions will lead to strong radiational cooling overnight,
brining the continued pattern of brisk morning temperatures.
Overnight lows Monday morning will dip into the 40s and potentially
the upper 30s in some locations. These lows are a couple degrees
below the climatological average. Patchy frost may be possible in
low-lying areas, though temperatures should stay warm enough to
prevent any widespread frost. Monday is expecting high temperatures
in the 70s. Surface high pressure building into the area should
keep winds on the lighter side.

Long Term (Tuesday & Beyond)

Longwave ridging is expected to build into the western and central
CONUS throughout the work week, bringing continued dry conditions.
High temperatures will gradually increase through the week with the
mid to upper 80s possible by the end of the work week.
Overnight lows will stay in the 40s and 50s. There are currently
no notable precipitation chances in the 7-day forecast. Some
GEFS ensemble members are bringing our next chance of
precipitation late next weekend as a shortwave trough impinges
the area. However, confidence is low in this occurrence in this
extended time frame.
