.DISCUSSION...The forecast continues to look very uneventful for
the next 5 to 6 days for the Northern Rockies. With dominant high
pressure locked over the region, we will continue to see daily
high temperatures in the 70s for western Montana valleys, and 70s
to 80s for valleys of central Idaho (the warmest being Riggins,
Slate Creek, etc.) Low temperatures will consistently range in the
20s to upper 30s for most valleys during this time. Daily
afternoon breezy winds are also likely, but otherwise, not much
else is expected.

In fact, there are little to no weather features in the forecast
until later in the week (Oct 10-11) when a frontal passage and the
chance for precipitation will attempt to break the high and dry
pattern over us. That being said, not all forecast models agree on
this, so forecast confidence is low at this time.

.AVIATION...High pressure ridging builds in through the middle of
next week with warm and dry conditions. Most areas will
experience VFR flying conditions but wildfire smoke is expected
to increase in Lehmi County, ID and southwest Montana this
afternoon through the day. This may lead to localized visibility
reductions (especially around KSMN). Diurnal winds will be common
with afternoon gusts of 15-20 kts, diminishing around sunset.
Patchy fog will occur near rivers and waterways each morning.
