Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
228 AM MST Sat Jan 18 2025
.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGES:
1) Cold Weather Advisories remain in effect across the northeast
half of NE Montana through Sunday morning.
2) The coldest temperatures and wind chills are expected Sunday
night and Monday morning which will likely require an Extreme Cold
Warning in the north and an advisory over the remainder of the
forecast area.
3) Temperatures will warm to near normal or slightly above normal
starting on Tuesday and remain that way for the remainder of the
week.
4) Weather systems may bring light snow Tuesday night and
Wednesday and again on Friday.
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
Arctic air has moves into the area. Will maintain Cold Weather Advisories
with 2 segments with one already in effect in the north where wind
chills will reach -25 to -35 this morning and remain there into
Sunday morning and the other where it starts at 3 pm today and
continue into Sunday morning.
Sheridan County will be borderline Extreme Cold Warning tonight.
Given that Sunday night and Monday morning will be colder with
lower wind chills than tonight. Will keep that area as a Cold
Weather Advisory for now. An Extreme Cold Warning is likely in the
north for Sunday night and Monday morning.
In the short term, a wave in NW flow aloft is bringing light snow
to parts of the forecast area this morning. Arctic high pressure
moves in this afternoon with clearing skies.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:
Went higher than the NBM on pops this morning as there is some
light snow occurring and NBM had little or no pops for it. Went
slightly lower than base forecast on temperatures tonight through
Sunday night to account for cold air drainage. Otherwise, went
with base forecast.
High confidence on the bitter cold through Monday.
