.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 407 AM CDT Mon Apr 14 2025
Today through tonight: Today will feature similar conditions to
yesterday with gusty south-southwest wind and temperatures even a
bit warmer ahead of an approaching cold front. Wind will once
again be strongest over the upper ArkLaMiss Delta region where we
are messaging for a limited wind risk for gusts of up to 30 to 35
mph this afternoon. As a cold front pushes southward into the
area overnight, there will be enough moisture convergence to
initiate a few showers with its passage in spite of the dry air
preceding it. Rainfall will be light and spotty on average. /EC/
Tuesday through early next week: The longer term continues to be
mostly quiet with ridging aloft the predominant feature. This
upper ridging will shunt disturbances away from our area, leading
to a quite pleasant week with temperatures above seasonal norms
(80s) and clear skies. However, the dry conditions will raise some
fire weather concerns this week, especially Tuesday with a dry
front progged to push south. Will continue to message an elevated
fire graphic in HWO for Tuesday. Winds sustained 10 to 15mph
Tuesday afternoon along with widespread RH in the 20 to 25% range
will support elevated fire conditions. While some fuels may be
slightly more moist, the dry period leading up to even lower RH
should dry some fuels. High pressure regains control Wednesday in
the wake of the front with continued dry conditions through the
remainder of the week. Despite low RH Wednesday, calmer winds
should limit greater fire danger, though a limited graphic may
still be eventually needed.
Ridging maintains into the weekend and begins to break down sometime
next week, which allows for some rain chances to return. This
continues to be highly uncertain, however, and guidance remains
variable. Guidance has continued to delay the breakdown of the ridge
and onset of rain into early next week (previous forecasts showed
this happening later this week into this weekend). Although timing
still cannot be nailed down, there has been consistency in the
guidance for some kind of disturbance around the Sunday/Monday
timeframe, assoicated with the breakdown of the ridge and the
ejection of a potent shortwave trough across the southern plains.
Right now, this looks like a glance to our NW, with much of the
forcing lifting north of the area. Higher heights further limits
confidence in stronger storms. The ridge looks to maintain its
influence into next week, but weaknesses may allow for some
disturbances and slight rain chances./SAS/
