.DISCUSSION...
(Today through Monday)
Issued at 310 AM CST Tue Dec 3 2024
Skies are mostly cloudy across much of the Mid-South early this
morning with temperatures in the mid 20s to lower 30s. High
pressure is currently centered over northwest Missouri. This high
will drop southeast today and will move across the region. This
will produce dry and cold weather today. Temperatures will be some
15 to 20 degrees below normal today with highs in the upper 30s
to mid 40s. Tonight will remain cold with lows Wednesday morning
in the mid to upper 20s.
On Wednesday, high pressure moves east of the region with south
winds bringing milder air into the Mid-South. Temperatures will
not be as cold with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s. A cold
front will drop south into southeast Missouri Wednesday afternoon
with scattered showers move into mainly southwest sections of the
Mid-South. The front will move through the region Wednesday night
with rain showers mainly over north Mississippi.
High pressure builds into the region on Thursday bringing more dry
and cold weather for Thursday and Friday. South winds return to
the region on Saturday bringing milder weather and a chance of
showers for both Saturday and Sunday. There is a slight chance of
some freezing rain over southwest portions of the Mid-South for
late Friday night. A cold front moves through the region on Monday
with showers and above normal temperatures found ahead of the
front.

NE to E winds will eventually shift to out of the south to
southwest by tomorrow morning. As the pressure gradient begins to
tighten across the region, winds will increase with the potential
for wind gusts around 20 knots for all sites except TUP. A
strong LLJ will bring wind shear to the JBR terminal between
10-15z. Guidance has hinted at the possibility of MVFR CIGS moving
in from the southwest affecting the MEM terminal sometime between
21z-00z tomorrow, but low confidence precludes the introduction
of MVFR CIGS during this TAF cycle.
