.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure remains in place tonight. Low pressure will lift
north toward the area through the weekend, then exit across the
Maritimes Monday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Surface high pressure remains ridged across the region through
tonight leading to a dry night with mostly cloudy skies.
Meanwhile, a low exiting the mid Atlantic coast will move north
through the weekend producing precipitation that will begin to
overspread southern regions early Saturday morning. Warm
temperatures in the 40s means precipitation will likely be rain
in most areas but a few flakes are possible over the higher
terrain where the low levels may stay slightly cooler.
Precipitation slowly moves north throughout the day as the low
approaches the Gulf of Maine, however, most of far northern
Maine should remain dry.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Saturday night...The next low pressure moves N across coastal
New England. The warm front should stretch N across the waters,
putting the region on the north side of the low. Light and
variable winds will switch to NE flow. The 925 mb model temps
show the cooler airmass staying in the region longer that the
surrounding area. Expect temps in the mid 30s across the region.
Models are in disagreement with the track of the storm, making
the ptype forecast difficult. As of this update, the majority of
snow should be confined to the higher terrain. The 12z model
runs also give the track more of a east shift. This should shift
the QPF to the E border for the night.

Sunday...The GFS and the Euro show the track of the system
speeding up and turning NE towards the Bay of Fundy, while the
CmC has a slower track. Nevertheless, the majority of the
rainfall should be concentrated to the SE, the coast, and the
eastern border. Temps should be in the 40s.

Sunday night...The system is expected to exit to the Maritimes
after midnight. The warm airmass should keep temps warm enough
for the precip to remain as rain, but cannot rule out some snow
showers in the north towards the early morning hour of Monday.
Temps in the mid 30s.

Monday...Very brief surface ridging moves into the region by the
morning, allowing for partly sunny skies in the morning and some
of the afternoon. Clouds should return with the next approaching
low over the Great Lakes. Expect temps in the upper 40s to low
50s across the area.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The next low pressure system moves NE across Quebec and swings a
cold front through the region on Tuesday. Extended models are in
fairly good agreement with the timing of the precip, which
should remain as mostly rain due to the warmer onshore flow
ahead of the front. Models do agree on a fast moving front, but
the timing of the exit of the precip is still unknown. The next
concern will be the LLJ and tightening pressure gradients on the
backside of the low causing gust W winds on Wednesday. Surface
ridging should return by Thursday and remains until Friday when
the next low moves in. Though the models agree on a frontal
boundary moving in, the models disagree on the timing.

.AVIATION /20Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
NEAR TERM: VFR tonight in light and variable winds. For
Saturday, MVFR for southern terminals in low ceilings and rain.
Mostly VFR for northern terminals on Saturday with occasional
MVFR in light rain and lower ceilings during the afternoon.
Light east wind around 5 kts.

SHORT TERM: Saturday night...MVFR/IFR in rain. NE winds 5 to 10
kt.

Sunday...Mainly IFR with -RA. N to NE winds 5 to 15 kt.

Sunday night...IFR early with -RASN, trending to MVFR/IFR late.
N winds 5 to 10 kt.

Monday-Mon night...VFR. N winds 5 to 10kts.

Tuesday...MVFR/IFR in rain. SE winds 5-10 kts.

Wed...VFR/MVFR in rain. W winds 5-15 kts.

.MARINE...
NEAR TERM: Winds and seas increase throughout the day on
Saturday. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect from 4 PM Saturday
until 8 PM Sunday.


SHORT TERM: A Small Craft Advisory has been issued for all
waters Saturday night to Sunday. Winds will decrease below SCA
levels, but seas should remain 4-5 ft, warranting a SCA for
Sunday night. Winds and seas decrease to below SCA by Monday
morning. Winds should increase to SCA by Wednesday.
