Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Caribou ME
1140 AM EDT Sat May 24 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
A low pressure system is currently located in New Brunswick and is
expected to gradually weaken and move east across the Maritimes
through the weekend. High pressure will build over the area Tuesday
into Wednesday.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
11:35 AM Update...Update to marine forecast only. See marine
section.
.PREVIOUS DISCUSSION...
Today, vertically stacked and occluded low pressure system in New
Brunswick slowly creeps eastward, as a high pressure system off to
the west in the Great Lakes region moves towards New England. As a
result, rain continues into tomorrow, primarily in the northern
counties, due to wrap around moisture from the low. Areas of higher
terrain will get some snowfall during the morning hours due to low
temperatures. Northwest flow plus cold 850mb height temperatures
bring in some cooler air, but nothing too drastic due to ample cloud
cover preventing mixing. High temperatures are forecast to be in the
mid-40s in the north, and upper-40s/low-50s Downeast. Chance for
some fog to develop early this morning and linger into the morning
hours. Ample moisture throughout the atmosphere and lift keeps rain
falling, but only looking at additional QPE amounts between 0.10
0.30 inches. Overcast skies throughout the short term period.
Low pressure system begins to move out of Canada by Saturday night,
keeping the higher chances for rain to be in the northern counties.
Overnight low temperatures in the upper-30s/low-40s throughout the
area. Potential for some fog development overnight due to light wind
and high relative humidity.
&&
.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Vertically stacked surface/upper lows will slowly move east across
the Maritimes Sunday into Monday with upper level troffing extending
back across the forecast area. Mostly cloudy skies along with a
chance of showers will persist across the region Sunday. Expect
mostly cloudy skies along with a slight chance/chance of showers
early Sunday night. Shower chances then decrease overnight with
partly cloudy skies. Generally expect partly sunny skies Monday.
However, with diurnal heating and lingering cold air aloft with the
upper trof, could have enough instability to also support the slight
chance of afternoon showers. High pressure builds toward the region
Monday night. Could still have the slight chance of a shower early
Monday night. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy/mostly clear skies.
Temperatures will remain at below normal levels Sunday, then return
to near normal levels Monday.
&&
.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
High pressure will build across the region Tuesday through Wednesday
with generally mostly clear skies. High pressure exits to the east
early Thursday, with low pressure then approaching from the west
late. Clouds will increase Thursday.
Rain chances will then increase Thursday night. Low pressure will
begin to cross the region Friday with rain. Temperatures will be at
above normal levels Tuesday through Thursday, with near normal level
temperatures Friday.
&&

KBGR/KBHB...MVFR conditions due to low ceilings, and a few lingering
rain showers. Patchy fog possible in the morning hours, but winds
may keep fog from developing. W/NW winds 5 to 10 kts for southern
terminals. Low ceilings and fog forecast Saturday night as well.
