- Northwestern wildfire smoke plume looks to move over the area
  today providing hazy sunshine at times this afternoon/evening.

- Though not as hot, daytime temperatures will remain a bit
  above early October climo the next few days with unseasonably
  warmer temperatures returning again later in the week.

- No reasonable hope for measurable rainfall this week!

A weak cold front will continue to move southward across south
central and southeast Kansas this morning with daytime highs
some 10 to 15 degrees cooler (though still above climo) across
the area this afternoon. The HRRR/RAP smoke plume trajectories
are advecting some of the wildfire smoke to our northwest over
much of the area during the day. This looks to provide some hazy
sunshine despite a fairly cloud-free sky. The northwesterly
flow regime aloft looks to prevail across mid-America through
the early week as a deeper upper low evolves over eastern Canada
with mean longwave troughing over the Northeast conus. The dry
low level airmass associated with the surface anticyclone
settling across the Midwest/Middle Mississippi Valley will
gradually modify on its western periphery over Kansas by mid-
week. While a tendency for slight ridging aloft builds across
the northern Plains later in the week and perhaps over Kansas,
we may still see weak perturbations drift southeastward over the
area. Even so, low level moisture remains scant in the warmer
southerly flow across the area.

Northeast winds will prevail in the wake of a cold front today.
Despite generally a cloud-free sky, some haze can be expected
aloft as smoke from the wildfires in the Northwest conus drifts
over Kansas. Otherwise, VFR conditions will prevail thru the
forecast valid period.
