Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
218 PM MDT Fri Apr 11 2025
.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Sunday night...No major changes from
previous forecast. At 2 PM MDT a cold front extended from near
Missoula/MT through Burns/OR, Klamath Falls/OR, to the California
coast at 39N then into the Pacific. Showers along the front will
maximize this evening as the front moves to McCall/ID-Lakeview/OR.
At that time there will be enough instability for isolated non-
severe thunderstorms near the leading edge of showers. Thunder-
storms will end before midnight MDT, and showers will also
decrease as the front shifts eastward into Idaho, but there will
still be light showers Saturday morning in Idaho north of the
Snake River, with the front already past Boise by sunrise and
past Twin Falls by noon MDT. Total rainfall through Saturday
morning should be .10 to .20 inch in eastern OR, .20 to .40 inch
in the the Upper Weiser River Valley and west-central Idaho
mountains, and less than .10 inch in southeast OR, the Lower
Treasure Valley, Owyhee Mountains, and along the ID/NV border.
Wet snow may fall in the central Idaho mountains above 6000 feet
MSL as the showers end. Only trace amounts of rain are expected
in the Upper Treasure Valley Saturday morning, while the Magic
valley and Camas Prairie should stay dry. Post-frontal west/
northwest winds will increase later Saturday, almost to advisory
speeds in south-central Idaho Saturday afternoon. Low temps
tonight will be mild with clouds and showers around. Highs
Saturday will be about ten degrees cooler than today. Saturday
night will be cold as skies clear and winds diminish, with lows
in the 20s in the mountains to lower 30s in the valleys. Frost
is likely in the agricultural valleys near sunrise Sunday.
High temps Sunday will be about the same as Saturday with
sunny skies and less wind than on Saturday. Sunday night
looks clear and cold with light winds.
.LONG TERM...Monday through Friday...A ridge is expected to
continue to build over the area on Monday, returning warmer
valley daytime temperatures into the upper 60s. A weak shortwave
trough is expected to extend across the area on Tuesday and
Wednesday, but surface moisture levels will remain inadequate
for any measurable precipitation. Long-range guidance shows
possible convective showers over higher terrain, but confidence
remains low. Valley daytime temperatures are expected to
gradually increase into the mid 70s from Monday to Thursday.
Through Thursday and Friday, there is considerable guidance
disagreement over the positioning of an incoming ridge over
the area, but general guidance sees a warmer and drier trend
throughout next week.

showers on Sat. Surface winds: mostly variable less than 10 kt
through Friday then N-NW at 10-20 kt Sat morning. Winds aloft at
10kft: SW 20-30 kt, shifting to NW Sat afternoon.
KBOI...VFR. Surface winds N-NW 5-10 kt today and increasing to
