.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Issued at 202 PM MDT Sun May 18 2025

An upper level low system is continuing to bring breezy and wet
conditions along with much cooler than normal temperatures this
morning. A convergence line is dropping down the Snake River
plain bringing showers currently from the Craters of the Moon to
the Pocatello area extending east to near the Wyoming border.
Models showing this line more less stall before weakening and
moving east by late this morning into early afternoon. A frost
advisory (for temperatures 33 to 36) remains in effect for the
Arco desert, Shoshone area, Eastern Magic valley and the Snake
River plain this morning.

Look for brief overall dry conditions late today into early
tomorrow before the next trough brings isolated to scattered
showers and thunderstorms late Tuesday. Temperatures will remain
below normal, especially in the morning, through the period.
Another frost advisory for the Shoshone area, Arco desert, and
the Snake River plain will likely be needed for Tuesday morning.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Issued at 202 PM MDT Sun May 18 2025

Long term period starts out dry and warmer but still below normal
with highs in the 50s mountains and 60s valleys. Thursday will see
continued warming with a weak wave returning a chance for showers
and thunderstorms mainly in the mountains. Highs in the 50s to mid
60s mountains and upper 60s to mid 70s valleys. Another wave will
keep at least a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms for both
Friday and Saturday. Highs remaining in the 60s mountains and 70s
valleys. Sunday and Monday will likely be drier but still have low
precipitation chances in grids with the warm temperatures continuing
and highs in the 60s and 70s and nearing 80 by Monday. Not
expecting significant winds in the long term period but Thursday and
Saturday appear to be the breeziest days with upper level systems
moving through Idaho. Generally 10 to 20 mph winds those days in
the Snake River Plain and southern mountains.

&&

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z TUESDAY/...
Issued at 534 AM MDT Mon May 19 2025

Main upper low and trof will continue to shift southeast today
and showers will continue to dissipate at DIJ, PIH and IDA. Do
not think they will shift far enough west to affect BYI, but
there is at least a low chance it could happen but not in
current TAF. Has lifted to VFR at IDA and PIH although also a
chance could see intermittent MVFR at PIH with a shower before
15Z. Have MVFR and reduced visibility in snow at DIJ through 13Z
and MVFR through 17Z before going VFR. SUN will be VFR all day
west of the remaining precipitation and lower clouds. Winds will
be in the 10 to 15 knot range at IDA, PIH and BYI sustained with
some gusts 20 to 25 mph this afternoon.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 218 AM MDT Mon May 19 2025

An upper level low system is bringing breezy and wet conditions
along with much cooler than normal temperatures this morning.
Look for brief dry conditions late today into early tomorrow
before the next trough brings isolated to scattered showers and
thunderstorms late Tuesday. Expect an overall weaker system on
Thursday and potentially another weak system late Friday into
early Saturday. Temperatures will gradually become above normal
by late week and continue warmer than normal through the
weekend. Brief high pressure will bring overall dry conditions
late Saturday through most of Sunday.

&&

.PIH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
Frost Advisory until 9 AM MDT this morning for IDZ051>055.
