Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
343 AM MDT Thu May 29 2025

.SHORT TERM...Today through Saturday night...An upper ridge is
pushed eastward by a weak upper trough later today. A cold front
associated with the trough moves through the area this
afternoon. Some moisture is available for convection in
s-central Idaho (east and south of Mountain Home) and in the
West Central Mountains this afternoon and evening, but the
chance of showers/thunderstorms is less than 20 percent. The
models continue to depict gusty outflow winds to 50 mph with the
convection in s-central Idaho, and could reach the Western
Magic Valley (Jerome, Twin Falls) this evening. Breezy post-
frontal winds gusting to around 30 mph are expected as well. An
upper ridge rebounds on Friday for dry conditions. High
temperatures today and Friday will be 10 to 15 degrees above
normal. Southwest flow will direct even warmer air into the
region on Saturday as valley highs are still expected to be
well into the 90s and possibly 100F in a few locations. Record
highs are possible in several locations, including Boise.

.LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday...Models are still favoring
an upper trough early next week followed by northwest flow aloft
by midweek. However, instead of a large closed upper low shown
in the previous model runs which would bring substantial
cooling and a high chance of showers, the models now show a
split system which would bring modest cooling and a lower
chance of showers. If the models continue in this direction,
the subsequent forecast temps will trend warmer and shower
chances will trend lower.

with gusts up to 25 kt in the afternoon. Winds aloft at 10kft
MSL: SW 5-15 kt.
