Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
219 PM MDT Sun Jun 14 2026

.KEY MESSAGES...
- Above normal temperatures through next week with Tuesday and
  Friday being the hottest days.

- The hot temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday will be
accompanied by gusty winds and very dry conditions.

- A chance of showers and thunderstorms returns to the area
  Friday and Saturday.

&&

.SHORT TERM /Through Tuesday Night/...
Upper ridging will extend into the area on Monday pushing
temperatures up 3-6 degrees from today. A more westerly
component in the flow aloft will increase moisture and a passing
upper wave will turn that moisture into mid-high cloud cover
late Monday/Monday night. Otherwise it remains dry at the
surface. Tuesday will be hot, dry and breezy as northwest flow
strengthens aloft. High temperatures will reach 10-15 degrees
above normal, putting lower elevations well into the 90s.
Tuesday afternoon will see gusty winds develop as flow aloft
mixes to the surface. The strongest winds will impact higher
mtns and the Snake Plain east of Mountain Home with gusts of 25
to 35 mph expected. A dry cold frontal passage Tuesday evening
will ramp up winds/gusts across the remainder of area and
wouldn`t be surprised to see gusts hit 45 mph in the typically
windier spots.

&&

.LONG TERM /Wednesday through Sunday/...
Wednesday will be 5-10 degrees cooler than Tuesday as the trough
to our north brings a weak dry cold front through. The post-
frontal winds Wednesday with a still dry atmosphere could carry
critical fire weather from Tuesday into Wednesday. Warming and
drying picks right back up for about 10 degrees above normal
Thursday and 10-15 degrees above normal Friday, putting valley
temperatures just a few degrees below Tuesday`s forecast. The
heat Friday and resulting dryness comes just before another cold
front that evening. This front and the associated upper trough
will bring thunderstorms to much of the area, particularly the
Nevada border and SE Oregon. This could create a critical fire
weather set up as the low breaks down the ridge and puts
lightning over a very dry environment. Winds outside of storms
Friday evening will be gusting up to 20-25 mph. As the low moves
into Idaho on Saturday, the thunderstorms follow suit, focused
from the ID-NV border up through central Idaho. Behind the
trough winds begin to pick up in the upper Snake Plain Saturday
and Sunday.
