.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Tuesday)
Issued at 248 PM EDT Mon Apr 14 2025
Key Messages:
- Light showers across far north Georgia late tonight ahead of a
weak cold front.
- Fire Danger conditions will be possible on Tuesday with low
relative humidity and breezy NW winds forecast.
This afternoon begins with the axis of a weakening upper level ridge
advancing towards the Atlantic coast and surface high pressure
centered just to the east of the Florida peninsula. Temperatures
today will be warmer than the previous few days within warm
southwesterly flow and underneath mostly sunny skies. Highs are
forecast to rise into the low to mid 80s across the majority of the
area. With dewpoints running a little below forecast values this
morning, adjustments have been made through the afternoon by
blending in the NBM 10th percentile and CONSShort to bring them more
in line with recent trends. In doing so, relative humidity values in
the far southeast corner of the forecast area are forecast to drop
below 25 percent for several hours. With dry 10-hour fuels, this has
warranted the issuance of a Fire Danger Statement through 8 PM EDT
in these counties.
A weak cold front will move southward through Tennessee this evening
and approach the north Georgia border late tonight. Isolated to
scattered showers will spread into the far northern tier after
midnight. Daytime heating will be long gone by the time
precipitation advances into the forecast area, so only minimal
surface instability is expected aloft, with surface-based CIN also
in place. A rumble of thunder or two from in-cloud lightning cannot
be ruled out, but thunderstorms are otherwise not forecast at this
time. The front will continue to weaken as it advances south, with
precipitation chances of 10 percent or less to the south of I-20 in
the early morning hours. Rainfall totals associated with this
frontal system are forecast to average less than 0.1 inch to the
north of the metro area, with some trace amounts further to the
south.
Northwesterly flow will set up both at the surface and aloft behind
the cold front and the parent trough on Tuesday. Winds are forecast
to be breezy behind the front, with gusts between 25-30 mph across
north Georgia. Wind gusts as high as 35 mph will also be possible in
the highest elevations of far north Georgia. Cooler temperatures and
drier air will also return in the wake of the front, with highs
tomorrow expected to be in the 60s in areas north and west of
Atlanta. Elsewhere across the area, where cooler air has not had as
much time to settle in, highs will rise into the 70s. Minimum RH
values are forecast to drop below 25 percent across much of north
and central Georgia during the afternoon. Considering the breezy
winds and dry fuels, at least a Fire Danger Statement will be needed
across the forecast area. Low temperatures Tuesday night into
Wednesday morning are forecast to drop into the upper 30s to low 40s.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)
Issued at 248 PM EDT Mon Apr 14 2025
Overall a relatively uneventful long term in store. As temps begin
to rise into the later half of the long term into the low to mid 80s
we will see a very similar setup to the Tuesday frontal passage
setting up again. High pressure to our south and east and then the
troughing to our west. Current ensembles have trended even drier for
the Friday/Saturday frontal passage. Have PoPs at 5-10% to account
for any shower activity as the front pushes just north of our area
but overall just not expecting much of any rainfall over the area
and it will be confined to north Georgia. Ensembles have seen an uptick
when it comes to the signal for rainfall early next week over the
past couple of days. There still remains uncertainty on the low
placement so this will determine yet again when the front comes
through. Current timing is Monday afternoon at the earliest into
Tuesday where we have 30% PoPs over north and central Georgia.
Timing will come together better over the next few days. Overall
temps though will be 10-15 degrees above normal.

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 752 PM EDT Mon Apr 14 2025
VFR to start TAF period with main impact being SW winds at 7-12
kts. These will remain even after sunset as a front approaches TAF
sites by 10-11Z tomorrow morning. Front will bring MVFR cigs to
most TAF sites, though some uncertainty on being this low. Small
chance of -SHRA or VCSH during passage, though probability is low.
Winds will shift to NW at 12-16 kts with gusts that may exceed 25
kts tomorrow afternoon. Ceilings should clear by 13-14Z, a little
later in CSG and MCN.
//ATL Confidence...00Z Update...
