-Isolated storms possible this afternoon for northeast GA.

-Dry and warm conditions return on Thursday

A 500mb trough is currently lifting NE towards the Mid-Atlantic
states resulting in more NW flow over the forecast area. SCT to BKN
clouds have formed over the region with temperatures currently in
the upper 70s to mid 80s. With surface instability on the order of
1000-2000 J/kg in place and the presence of LL moisture, isolated
storms may once again be possible late this afternoon into the
evening mainly over Northeast GA. Only limiting factor in
development could be the showers and storms that developed and
persisted earlier today over roughly the same area. Latest hi-res
guidance is not too excited about the possibility of storms and at
the time of this writing convection has yet to develop across the
northeast so we shall see. If a storm or two is able to develop
large hail and gusty winds will be the main threats.

A final wave of energy will swing through overnight and low clouds
may develop once again persisting through mid-morning. There may
be an isolated shower with this over west-central GA but
confidence remains low. Ridging builds in from the west and will
be the driver of the weather pattern on Thursday. Warm daytime
temperatures, fair weather cumulus and mostly dry weather will be
on tap for North and Central GA tomorrow (Thursday). Daytime
temperatures will range from roughly 84 to 89 approaching the low
90s across far south- central GA tomorrow afternoon. These
temperatures are roughly 4-6 degrees above normal.

Key Messages:

    -Temps approach record highs for the weekend over the metro.

    -Rain chances return for start of the weekend with daily
potential for strong to severe storms through mid week for north
Georgia.

Discussion:

For Friday, the weak ridging at the upper levels will have pushed
just to the east over into the Atlantic with an area of high
pressure over the eastern Gulf. MEanwhile our next system will be
over the the mid west pushing eastward into the great lakes with an
associated front extending southward into the mid MS valley. This
front is not expected to push into north GA/southern TN until
Saturday meaning we are expecting to see another day of limited PoPs
(10-20%) over much of the area. With the high pressure just to our
south over the gulf and leftover ridging into the Carolinas warm
advection will continue into the area resulting in increased temps
at 8-10 degrees above normal. This will push temps Friday into the
upper 80s to low 90s which will be approaching a record for ATL on
Friday at 90 forecasted with the record being 91.

By Saturday the frontal boundary will have pushed into the northern
GA/southern TN periphery leading to our main emphasis for strong to
severe weather through mid week.  With the front hanging out over
north Georgia, should see most storms stick to that northern Georgia
area although should the front meander any further south could see
storms extend past I-85. Daily afternoon CAPE values of 1500-2000
J/kg are currently forecasted with elevated shear values. With the
elevated shear values we will be looking out for the chance for
these storms to become more linear in nature and have more of a
damaging wind threat vs just a popcorn summer type setup. We will
continue to monitor for any indication that storms will become
linear in nature. Emphasis on early next week is in store as
northwest flow looks to make a comeback unfortunately which
increases the risk for linear storms to affect the area.

In addition to the record high potential, our lows will be
approaching record high minimum temps with low temps in the low 70s
through the weekend.

VFR conditions expected through the period. SCT to BKN cu at
3-5kft and will persist through at least 00z. Another wave of
midlevel energy will sweep through the area overnight keeping
SCT-BKN higher level clouds in the area. There is also another
opportunity for clouds at 015-030ft between 10-15z due to
continued southerly LL flow. However, confidence remains low on if
solid MVFR cigs will develop and persist. Cigs begins lifting
after 15z.
