.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 334 AM EST Sat Feb 22 2025
High pressure over the region will weaken a bit Today allowing
increased cloud cover...but still no precipitation expected in the
short term.
Current satellite loop shows mostly clear skies across the state
with a nice cloud shield over MS and SE AL. These clouds are
associated with a very weak wave centered over AR/MO that will move
east across TN Today and into the Carolinas Tonight. We will see
mainly mid to high level clouds stream across the area but not
expecting any showers with this. Things clear out Sat night as
another high pressure ridge builds in from MS/AL becoming centered
over NW GA buy Sun morning.
Things will stay mostly clear Sun but it will be short lived as the
next wave develops along the TX Gulf coast Sun morning and moves
east through the day. This wave will bring increased precip chances
into the beginning of the extended forecast.
Temps this morning are still falling but not expecting things to get
as cold as they did yesterday morning . Temps this morning should
bottom out in the lower to mid 20s across the area with some upper
20s across southern central GA. Temps will rebound nicely Today with
highs expected in the 50s to near 60. There will be some isolated
areas still in the upper 40s across the NE GA mountains. Low temps
Sun morning expected back down into the mid to upper 20s.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through Friday)
Issued at 334 AM EST Sat Feb 22 2025
Starting off the long term period on late Sunday night into
Monday morning, a mid level closed low swings through the Texas
panhandle and into the Arklamiss resulting in a surface low
pressure system forming over the Louisiana gulf coast by Sunday
night. As the gulf low pushes eastward rain chances are expected
to stay mainly south of the forecast area with forecasted PWATs
at 0.5" and below for the area with north Georgia being at 0.2
which is in the 10th percentile. PWATs between 0.5 and 0.8" could
push northward into far southern central Georgia briefly
overnight Sunday night into Monday morning. Have maintained 15-20%
PoPs for this area to account for the light showers that are
possible. QPF amounts are currently at a tenth of an inch for that
far southern central Georgia area. Overall with the main area of
moisture well south of the area this will limit shower activity
over much of the area.
As this low exits to our east, the area will be under a more
northwesterly flow pattern through Wednesday with a CAD wedge
looking to setup over the northeast portions of the state Tuesday
into Wednesday for a short amount of time ahead of the next
approaching system. Max temps by Wednesday will have quickly
warmed up into the low 70s for much of the area with dewpoints in
the 40s.
Looking towards the later half of the long term period, a trough
over the middle plains is expected to shift southeastward into
the area bringing an associated sfc cold front through the area
into Thursday morning. At this time CAPE looks marginal and the
forcing looks likely to be well north of the area with the
attendant surface low over Kentucky/Virginia. Expecting mainly a
rain event with this frontal passage with the chance for a few
thunderstorms. With the quick nature of this front and it being
well away from the area of energy, precip chances do remain at
~30% through Thursday and QPF values are under a tenth of an
inch. Current NBM 90th percentile puts us at up to a half inch
over the northern areas but the 10th and even 40th percentile show
no accumulations.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 614 AM EST Sat Feb 22 2025
VFR conditions expected to continue. Will see some increased Mid
level clouds this afternoon and evening but still expecting them
to stay VFR. No precipitation or restrictions to VSBYs expected.

increase out of the SW by 15-16z into the 5-10kt range through
this evening. Winds will turn to the NW just after sunset with
speeds diminishing into the 2-6kt range over night. Mostly clear
skies expected Sunday.
