331 PM EST Wed Dec 11 2024
...New LONG TERM...
.SHORT TERM...
(Rest of today through Thursday)
Issued at 1252 PM EST Wed Dec 11 2024
A cold front is currently en route to South Florida this afternoon
and is expected to push through the area late this afternoon into
the evening hours. As the front moves through, there will be enough
forcing and moisture to support isolated to scattered showers, and
even a thunderstorm or two. Most areas will see less than a quarter
inch of rainfall. Ahead of this front, conditions remain quite warm
and muggy but much cooler and drier are should filter across the
area behind it.
Aside from reduced temperatures and humidity, breezy northerly winds
(sustained 15-20 mph gusting 25-30 mph) will accompany the notably
cooler airmass. Temperatures tonight into Thursday morning will
plummet into the low to mid 40s across Hendry and Glades counties,
mid to upper 40s across Collier County, and mid to upper 50s over
the East Coast metro. The breezy winds will lead to even colder
apparent temperatures (wind chill), with mid to upper 30s across
Hendry and Glades, low 40s across Collier, and low to mid 50s across
the East Coast metro.
Thursday will be a breezy and cool day as temperatures only warm to
the low to mid 70s across South Florida. While a few showers cannot
be ruled out across the East Coast metro, most areas will be rain-
free. Sustained winds will be around 15-20 mph, with gusts to 25-30
mph.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through next Tuesday)
Issued at 307 PM EST Wed Dec 11 2024
Mid level ridging will continue to build over the region through
the end of the week and into the first part of the weekend. At the
surface, strong high pressure centered well to the north will be
the dominant synoptic feature influencing the weather pattern
across South Florida during this time frame. The large and
expansive area of high pressure to the north will also keep the
pressure gradient tight allowing for the breezy northeasterly
wind flow to continue through the first part of the weekend. While
most areas will remain dry, just enough lower level moisture
advection will be taking place along the breeze to support the
possibility of fast moving isolated shower activity over the
Atlantic waters as well as the eastern half of the region. Any
shower activity that develops will be low topped and short lived.
With the northeasterly wind flow in place, temperatures will be on
a moderating trend heading into the upcoming weekend. Highs on
Friday will generally remain in the mid to upper 70s across most
areas and then on Saturday, they will range from the upper 70s
along the east coast to the lower 80s across interior portions of
Southwest Florida.
The weather pattern does not change too much across the region
heading into the second half of the weekend and into early next
week as mid level ridging holds strong over South Florida. At the
surface, the large and expansive area of high pressure centered
over the Northeast will shift into the western Atlantic. As it
does this, northeasterly wind flow will remain in place, however,
the pressure gradient across South Florida will slowly begin to
relax as early next week progresses. This will allow for the
winds to gradually subside during this time frame. While the dry
conditions will continue across most areas, moisture advection
will remain in place across the lower levels through early next
week. This will allow for isolated to scattered shower activity
mainly over the Atlantic waters as well as the eastern half of
South Florida during this time frame. Shower activity will
continue to be low topped due to a drier air mass aloft with mid
level ridging in place. High temperatures for the second half of
the weekend and into early next week will rise into the upper 70s
and lower 80s across most areas.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1252 PM EST Wed Dec 11 2024
Mainly VFR to MVFR ceilings expected through the period as a
frontal boundary crosses the area. Winds will be shifting more
westerly through the afternoon and should become more
northwesterly by the late evening hours followed by northeasterly
by late Thursday AM. Chance for a few showers and maybe an
isolated thunderstorm across all sites through this evening,
although not enough confidence to explicitly mention in TAF.
&&
.MARINE...
Issued at 1252 PM EST Wed Dec 11 2024
Marine conditions are deteriorating ahead of a cold front passage
expected later this afternoon. Strong north-northeast winds
will develop behind it and should last through Friday. Scattered
showers and a few thunderstorms may accompany the frontal boundary
this afternoon and evening. Seas will rapidly build to 6-10 ft
across all local waters tonight, and remain elevated through the
end of the week, especially over the Atlantic waters.
&&
.BEACHES...
Issued at 1252 PM EST Wed Dec 11 2024
There will be a moderate risk for rip currents along the Atlantic
beaches of South Florida today. The risk will rapidly increase
tonight and remain elevated for the rest of the week as northerly
swell builds in and winds gradually turn onshore. The rip current
risk will also increase along the Gulf beaches tonight, and remain
elevated on Thursday.
