Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
825 PM EDT Sun May 25 2025
...New UPDATE, AVIATION...
.UPDATE...
Issued at 820 PM EDT Sun May 25 2025
Forecast remains on track this evening requiring no adjustments.
Spotty convection lingering this evening generally along the I-4
corridor in the wake of earlier activity, and near the central and
southern I-75 corridor along the westward advancing outflow
boundary emanating from earlier CFL/ECFL convection. Parts of SE
Pasco and NE Polk counties received 2-3 inches of rain this
afternoon and early evening per obs and radar estimates, and the
Flood Advisory in effect for affected parts of Polk County will be
allowed to expire at 830 PM. Otherwise, expect remaining activity
to diminish over the next hour or so followed by clearing skies
overnight with lows generally in the 70s.

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 203 PM EDT Sun May 25 2025
Similar forecast, different day. Weak high pressure at the
surface and ridging aloft makes for above average temperatures.
The only relief coming from any afternoon thunderstorms that
develop. Most thunderstorm activity will likely be east of I-75 as
the sea breeze becomes the main steering mechanism. SPC has most
of the forecast area in a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms
again today. Main concern will again be hail. Though the mid level
temperatures today are a bit warmer compared to yesterday so that
should decrease the likelihood of any large hail. A portion of
the interior is also in a marginal risk for excessive rainfall
today as heavy rainfall with slow moving storms is possible.
However, with the area still in moderate to extreme drought,
rainfall will be welcome.
This summertime pattern continues through the rest of the week. A
pattern change comes Saturday as a cold front makes its way
over the area, dropping temps and dew points slightly behind it.

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 738 PM EDT Sun May 25 2025
Continued trend of mainly VFR conditions with convection bringing
a period of potential restrictions in the afternoon while
developing and pushing inland inland with the sea breeze,
followed by another period in the evening when the sea
breeze/outflow boundaries push back toward the coast from the
interior. TPA/PIE/SRQ less likely to see impacts, with a PROB30
group for remaining terminals given higher likelihood. Winds
light/easterly overnight, shifting to onshore/westerly late
morning into afternoon before becoming easterly again in evening.
&&
.MARINE...
Issued at 203 PM EDT Sun May 25 2025
Marine conditions remain mostly quiet as the flow continues to be
weak. Each afternoon the sea breeze will develop, increasing
onshore winds, before diminishing overnight. A cold front
approaches the area Saturday, increasing winds as it arrives.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 203 PM EDT Sun May 25 2025
Overall, fire concerns remain low as moisture continues to
increase and winds remain light.
