Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA
344 AM PDT Wed May 7 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
There could be a few residual showers over the mountains for this
afternoon. Then dry with continued warming through Saturday with
the marine layer becoming much shallower and coverage of night and
morning coastal low clouds much patchier for Friday and Saturday.
Saturday high temperatures will be as much as 15 to 20 degrees
above average for the inland valleys with heat impacts mostly
likely for the lower deserts, valleys, and inland Orange County.
A low pressure system moving to near the West Coast will bring
cooling for Sunday through Tuesday with Tuesday high temperatures
as much as 10 to 15 degrees below average for the mountains,
Inland Empire, and high desert. The marine layer will deepen
significantly with night and morning coastal low clouds extending
well inland and onto the coastal slopes of the mountains by
Monday and Tuesday.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...
.SHORT TERM (Today through Friday)...
The marine layer remains around 3500 to 4000 feet deep early this
morning. However, faster clearing is expected for this morning
with the marine layer becoming shallow for tonight into the
weekend with coverage of night and morning coastal low clouds much
patchier for Friday and Saturday. There is enough residual
moisture over the mountains this afternoon. The most likely
location for any light showers this afternoon would be over the
San Diego County mountains. This will be followed by dry weather
into the weekend. A significant warming trend will continue
through Saturday with high temperatures warming to above average
beginning Thursday.
&&
.LONG TERM (Saturday through Tuesday)...
Saturday is expected to be the warmest day. High temperatures will
be as much as 15 to 20 degrees above average for the valleys with
high temperatures for inland areas around 35 degrees warmer than
this very cool past Sunday. High temperatures on Saturday will
range from the lower to mid 70s near the coast to the mid to upper
90s for the Inland Empire with 104 to 108 for the lower deserts.
On Saturday, there could be several record warm minimum
temperature records for the date tied or broken with at least a
few record warm maximum temperature records tied or broken as
well. Heat impacts for Saturday are most likely for the lower
deserts, valleys, and inland Orange County.
A large low pressure system will move inland along the West Coast
on Sunday and Monday and amplify into southern California on
Tuesday. This will bring a cooling trend for Sunday through
Tuesday with Tuesday high temperatures as much as 10 to 15 degrees
below average for the mountains, Inland Empire, and high desert.
With the cooling, high temperatures on Tuesday will range from the
lower to mid 60s near the coast to the mid 60s to lower 70s for
the Inland Empire with the lower deserts mostly in the lower to
mid 80s.
The marine layer will deepen significantly with night and morning
coastal low clouds extending well inland and onto the coastal
slopes of the mountains by Monday and Tuesday.
