Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Hanford CA
320 PM PST Wed Jan 14 2026
.UPDATE...
&&
&&
.KEY MESSAGES...
1.) Areas of dense fog will develop each night and morning in
the San Joaquin Valley this week.
2.) Expect drying and warming conditions elsewhere with gusty
easterly winds in the Sierra Nevada ridges and the Kern County
mountains mountains at times this week.
3.) Overnight cold temperatures continue to be in the upper 30s
to low 40s; chances of freezing temperatures less than 10%.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Fog continues to linger across portions of the Valley late this
morning, but will gradually taper off into this early afternoon.
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM as a result to
account for the areas of dense fog that will continue to linger.
Otherwise, much of the same is expected during the afternoons
today and through the rest of this week with temperatures
reaching the upper 50s to low 60s in much of the Valley, with
warmer spots across the south of the forecast area where around
70 degrees is expected. Easterly breezy conditions, 30-40 mph,
are expected in the Sierra Nevada Ridges and Kern County
Mountains. However, chances for winds greater than 40 mph are
low (less than 20% at lower elevations), and generally reserved
for the highest peaks. Expect these breezy conditions at times
this week.
Tonight into tomorrow morning, expect another round of dense
fog to develop in the San Joaquin Valley. Visibilities down to a
quarter-mile or less will once again be prevalent. FSI index is
expected to meet high to very high thresholds again, indicating
hazardous travel expected with visiblities down to 800 feet or
less. Use caution when traveling for the morning commute, be
sure to have headlights and low beams turned on, and leave
plenty of distance between you and other motorists.
&&
.AVIATION...
MVFR conditions will continue across the San Joaqin Valley
through 06Z Thursday before a 50-60% probability for IFR or
lower visibilities in fog/mist through 18Z. VFR conditions will
prevail over the Sierra Nevada, Coastal Range, and in the
Mojave Desert for the next 24 hours.
