.KEY MESSAGES...

1. A storm will pass through central California through
Thursday bringing valley rain, mountain snow and strong winds
to the region.

2. Winter Weather Advisory in effect through 8 AM Thursday for
the higher elevations in and around Yosemite NP.

3. Above average temperatures with dry conditions return
Friday through the weekend.

4. Winds greatly increase over the Kern County Desert. A High

Friday for the Mojave Desert slopes. A Wind Advisory is in

the Kern County desert.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Mainly light precipitation has been reported so far this
evening, or from a few hundredths of an inch in the San Joaquin
Valley to around a quarter of an inch in most areas. Although,
some mountain locations have reported near half an inch. Chances
of precipitation continue through at least late Wednesday,
although chances will linger in the Sierra Nevada into Thursday
morning. Additional precipitation in the Sierra Nevada,
including snow above 7,000 feet will occur through Thursday
morning. Thus, have extended the Winter Weather Advisory,
including for Yosemite NP to Fresno County. In addition, have
upgraded the High Wind Watch to a Warning for the Mojave Desert
slopes from Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon, as there is
at least a moderate chance (50-60 percent) for gusts at least
60 mph. Otherwise, temperatures remain cooler than average until
Thursday with breezy conditions in most areas.

On Friday, temperatures noticeably rise and will continue to
rise by the weekend. Above average temperatures return by the
weekend with warming each day until Easter Sunday. There is a
60-70 percent chance for highs in the warmest valley and desert
locations to reach at least 85 degrees on Sunday and again on
Monday as temperatures will be similar. Above average
temperatures with below average precipitation are depicted in
the latest CPC outlooks for the 6-10 day and 8-14 day periods.

&&

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions will prevail across central California across the
next 24 hours, except IFR due to mountain obscurations over the
Sierra Nevada for the next 24 hours resulting from precipitation.
Strong winds developing over the Sierra Nevada Crest and across
the Kern County Desert with surface winds gusting to 40 knots
through 18Z Wednesday, but increasing to 50 kts along the Mojave
Desert slopes afterward.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
A storm system is moving through the area through Thursday
morning. RH values will improve with decreasing temperatures
and ample moisture with the system. In addition, strong NW flow
on the backside of the trough Friday into the weekend will
introduce high winds and very low RH values, especially for the
Kern Desert and southern Sierra Nevada where minimum humidity
has potential to fall below 15 percent.

&&

.AIR QUALITY ISSUES...
None.

&&

.CERTAINTY...

The level of certainty for days 1 and 2 is high.
