Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA
943 AM PST Thu Nov 21 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
The daytime warming trend for the deserts will continue through
Friday while the coast and valleys begin to cool on Friday. For
Saturday through Monday, a low pressure system to the north could
bring periods of light to locally moderate rainfall with snow
levels mostly above 8000 feet. Smaller chances for precipitation
could continue for much of next week, but with increasing spread
in the details.

&&

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

.Morning Update...

Not much change in the short term. Today will be the warmest day
in the foreseeable future west of the mountains with some inland
valleys reaching the low 80s. Light rain is still anticipated for
portions of southwestern California beginning on Saturday. Global
ensembles continue to back off on the development of a sfc low
across central California this weekend, thus precipitation amounts
continue to drop for southwestern California. Regardless, cooler
conditions with occasional light showers still expectd to prevail
through early next week.

.Previous Discussion (401 AM PST Thursday)...

.SHORT TERM (Today through Saturday)...
Daytime warming will continue through Friday for the deserts while
the coast and valleys will begin to cool on Friday. The cooling
will continue to spread inland on Saturday the mountains and
inland valleys as much as 10 degrees cooler than Friday.

A low pressure system off the Pacific Northwest coast will
continue to direct substantial Pacific moisture inland across
portions of California. The heaviest rainfall is expected from
around the Bay Area northward with decreasing amounts to the
south. Some lighter rainfall could spread to the south and east of
Los Angeles on Saturday and Saturday night with snow levels mostly
above 8000 feet.

&&

.LONG TERM (Sunday through Wednesday)...
The flow of substantial moisture into portions of California will
continue for Sunday and Monday with occasional periods of mostly
lighter rainfall to the south and east of Los Angeles County.
Lesser chances for precipitation for southwestern California will
continue for Wednesday through much of next week, but with
increasing spread in the details.

For Saturday and Sunday for Lytle Creek, a typically wetter
location on the coastal slopes of the eastern San Gabriel
Mountains, NBM chances for one-tenth inch more of rainfall is more
than 80 percent, but the chance for 1.5 inches or more of rainfall
is only 5 percent. For Monday and Tuesday, the chance for one-
tenth inch or more of rainfall is more than 60 percent but with
the chance for 1.5 inches or more of rainfall only 8 percent.
Chances decrease to the south and east.

&&

..AVIATION...
21530Z...Some high clouds this morning at about 28,000 ft MSL,
otherwise clear today. Patchy coastal low clouds developing early
Friday. Moderate confidence in bases around 800-1400 ft MSL. These
may cause intermittent impacts to coastal sites 10-16Z Fri. There is
a 30-40% chance for BKN or more cigs at KSAN and a 50-60% chance for
the same at KSNA after 12Z Fri. Clouds will clear after 16Z Fri.

&&

.MARINE...
No hazardous marine weather conditions expected through Monday. &&

.SKYWARN...
Skywarn activation is not requested. However weather spotters are
encouraged to report significant weather conditions.
