Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA
855 AM PDT Thu Oct 16 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
Drier and warmer weather the next several days with weak offshore
flow and an upper level ridge in place, and temperatures rise to near
or slightly above normal. Slightly cooler for early next week as
the ridge breaks down with a low pressure system hanging just
offshore. The low will bring further cooling for the end of the
next week and a chance of showers.

COUNTIES...
.UPDATE...
No significant changes to the forecast. Skies remain clear with an
absent marine layer today. Given high pressure over the region,
the marine layer will struggle to build back each night into the
weekend. Cooler temperatures return early next week as a low
pressure system moves closer to the coastline, and a more
substantial marine layer may return as soon as Sunday.
.PREVIOUS DISCUSSION FROM 348 AM PDT...
.SHORT TERM (Today through Saturday)...
For Friday and Saturday, high pressure from the eastern Pacific
will spread across California with a developing low pressure
system well to the southwest of the area becoming cut off.
There will be a warming trend into the weekend. There will be
weak offshore lower level flow as well with northerly winds gusts
near the coastal slopes of the mountains mostly 35 mph or less.
High temperatures for today will be as much as 10 to 15 degrees
warmer than Wednesday for the inland valleys onto the coastal
slopes of the mountains. There will be a few more degrees of
warming on Friday and another few degrees of warming on Saturday.
With the warming, high temperatures on Saturday for the coast and
valleys will be a few to around 5 degrees above average with the
deserts into the mountains a few to around 5 degrees below
average. High temperatures on Saturday will range from the lower
to mid 70s near the coast to the lower to mid 80s for the Inland
Empire with the mid to upper 80s for the lower deserts.
.LONG TERM (Sunday through Wednesday)...
On Sunday, the mountains and deserts will continue to warm a few
more degrees with slight cooling for the coast and valleys. That
low pressure system well to the southwest of the area may move
inland through southern California around Wednesday of next week.
Monday and Tuesday may be a few degrees cooler with another 5
degrees or so of cooling.
