.KEY MESSAGES...
1.) A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 11 AM this morning.
Areas of dense fog will develop each night and morning in the
San Joaquin Valley this week.
2.) Expect drying and warming conditions elsewhere with gusty
easterly winds in the Sierra Nevada ridges and the Kern County
mountains mountains at times this week.
3.) Overnight cold temperatures continue to be in the mid 30s
to low 40s.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Fog is going to be the primary headline over the next few days for
the valley. Calm winds and complete RH recovery during the overnight
hours are setting up a classic condition for valley fog. Visibility
along in the San Joaquin Valley will fall to less than a quarter
mile during the early morning hours in some areas; with widespread
visibilities below one mile. With little in the way of steering
flow, patchy areas of reduced visibilities will linger into the
afternoon. The Fog Severity Index continue to indicated that we
are expected to meet or exceed high to very high thresholds.
Vehicle accidents have been reported frequently this week
already so please, slow down and take your time during your
morning commute.
High temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s the remainder of the
week, with some 70s at the southern end of the CWA by the end of the
work week. How long the fog sticks around will likely determine
whether we see peak daytime heating. Freezing overnight lows in the
valley are behind us for the time being, with lows pleasantly in the
low to mid 40s except at higher elevations in the mountains.
&&
.AVIATION...
LIFR to IFR conditions have spread across much of the Valley.
Conditions improve to IFR to MVFR after 18Z and will persist
with some areas reaching VFR by 6Z Friday. After 6Z, conditions
begin to lower in the Valley becoming IFR by 9Z with areas of
LIFR spreading after 9Z.
&&
