.KEY MESSAGES...

through late week and the remainder of May.

* Sierra snowmelt will be ongoing, leading to cold, fast streams.

.DISCUSSION...

Infrared satellite imagery overnight showed the weak upper low
continuing it`s slow trek eastward, taking the moisture source with
it as it goes. There may be showers lingering today near southern
Mono and southeastern Mineral counties, but showers will be limited
due to the transient moisture source. Another trough is positioning
itself off the northwestern Pacific coast, which will influence
winds over northern California and northwestern Nevada late this
afternoon and evening. Sierra ridges near Tahoe will gust out of the
southwest to 40 mph. The gusts will reach western Nevada valleys
after 5pm, increasing breezes across Pyramid Lake enough to bring
choppy waters. Expect gusts to approach 25-30 mph for western
Nevada valleys. Breezes will subside into the early morning
hours, as clouds fill the sky from the northwest.

The cloud cover overnight will persist through Monday morning, with
a nudge in wind direction from the north. This will help to hold
temperatures in check for Monday, with western Nevada valleys
topping out in the lower 80s and Sierra locations reaching upper 60s
to low 70s. With a trough swinging to our north, there could be some
showers along the Oregon border that swing by.

Tuesday we start a climb toward bringing 90s to western Nevada
valleys, and by the weekend we could see widespread mid to upper
90s across the Basin and Range. Various solutions in the guidance
indicate there could be some disturbances in our ridging pattern,
which could mean some showers and storms might enter the picture.
As of now Wednesday evening looks to be a target time frame, when
a possible brush-by system could introduce showers along the
Oregon border and increased breezes along the Sierra. HRICH

.AVIATION...

* Widespread VFR conditions prevail through the holiday weekend.
Today, SW-W winds increase with gusts 20-25 kt at the main
terminals, then a more typical summer wind pattern with winds
to near 20 kt Monday. HRICH
