.SYNOPSIS...
Cooler with more widespread night and morning low clouds and fog
this weekend. Locally strong and gusty west winds will continue
in the mountains and deserts through tonight and again Sunday
night. Minor warming early next week followed by more noticeable
warming inland later in the week.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

This Morning...A low pressure trough moving inland over the region will
bring increased mid and high clouds in an organized band, along
with a deeper marine layer. The deeper marine layer will allow low
clouds and fog to spread farther inland this morning and again
tonight into Sunday morning before the trough moves east. The
deeper marine layer will also bring a chance for drizzle west of
the mtns this morning. It could repeat on Sunday morning but high-
res models indicate that the chances are lower for Sunday
morning. High temperatures today will be generally below seasonal
averages...by anywhere from a couple of degrees to as much as 15
degrees. Sunday won`t be as cool with temperatures ranging from a
few degrees above normal in the high deserts to a few degrees
below normal in most other areas. Stronger onshore flow with the
trough will bring locally strong and gusty westerly winds in the
mtns and adjacent desert areas through tonight and again Sunday
night.

A little warmer and less breezy with somewhat less marine layer
low clouds and fog for Monday as a transient ridge moves over
SoCal on Monday. Daytime high temperatures will be near normal in
most areas.

Another low pressure system forms a closed upper low over SoCal on
Tuesday, deepening the marine layer for more night and morning
low clouds and fog. The upper low doesn`t seem to bring any cooler
air into the region and inland high temperatures show a slight
increase for Tuesday afternoon.

Model solutions mostly show the warming trend continuing from
midweek to next weekend. At this time, it looks like Friday is
likely to be the warmest day with daytime high temperatures
reaching the low 90s in the IE and reaching triple digits in the
lower deserts. This, in spite of the presence of a couple of upper
level low pressure systems in the vicinity. Night and morning low
clouds/fog will continue in the coastal areas and valleys through
next week, with some day-to-day variation.

Beyond Tuesday, confidence in forecast details isn`t very high
since there remains significant spread in the solutions from
ensemble members across model platforms.

.AVIATION...
220900Z...Coasts/Valleys...Satellite shows low clouds with bases
1700-2200ft MSL and tops to 2700ft have moved 15-20 miles inland,
currently pushing into KSBD and KONT. VIS for valleys and coastal
mesas may briefly fall to 4-6SM, elsewhere above 6SM. -DZ possible
through 18z for most locations, which could also briefly reduce VIS.
Clouds likely to linger through at least late morning, with inland
areas clearing by 17-19z but coastal sites may remain cloudy through
20-21z. 30% clouds do not clear for coastal sites at all. Low clouds
move inland again tonight after 00z, with Sunday morning seeing
similar bases, tops, and inland coverage as this morning.

Elsewhere...Strong west winds over mountains, passes and desert
slopes with gusts locally to 35-50kts expected this afternoon and
evening. Mod up/downdrafts in lee of mountains with patchy BLDU
possible, locally reducing VIS down to 3SM at times. Winds slowly
weaken into Sunday morning. Otherwise, clear skies and VFR
conditions prevail.

.MARINE...
Winds gusting to 20kts near San Clemente Island this morning with
waves of 5-7 feet, slowly decreasing through the morning. Otherwise,
no hazardous marine conditions are expected through Wednesday.

.BEACHES...
Long period (17-18 seconds) south-southwest swell increases
gradually through Sunday, with surf of 4-6 feet and sets up to 7
feet possible Saturday through Monday with a high rip current risk.
Surf begins to subside on Tuesday. A Beach Hazard Statement has been
issued for Saturday through Monday night and contains more details.

     County Coastal Areas.

     Wind Advisory until 3 AM PDT Sunday for San Gorgonio Pass near
     Banning.
