.KEY MESSAGES...

* Drier and warmer conditions expected for the weekend, with
  temperatures climbing to near-average.

* Isolated showers and storms remain possible over Mineral County
  this weekend.

* High pressure builds over the Great Basin next week, leading to
  a prolonged period of warm and dry conditions with above-
  average temperatures.

.DISCUSSION...

An upper shortwave trough will continue to exit to the north,
leading to a much drier and more stable atmosphere across the
region as high pressure builds in. Most areas will stay dry this
weekend, although latest HRRR guidance does have some showers and
storms popping up over Mineral County this evening and Sunday
evening. Chances remain low around 15%, with low concern for flash
flooding or strong outflow winds. High pressure will remain
overhead this upcoming week, keeping our region warm and dry.

Temperatures will begin a warming trend this weekend that will
last into next week. Highs are forecast to be in the 70s to low
80s for the Sierra and 80s to low 90s for western Nevada valleys
through the end of next week. Afternoon winds next week will
feature our typical zephyr breeze each afternoon with gusts up to
20-25 mph.

Looking ahead to next weekend (8/22), the GEFS is showing our
stout ridge breaking down and shifting east, allowing more
monsoonal moisture to be drawn up north. The EC Ens is a little
drier, bringing the ridge and peripheral moisture further east -
out of western NV. We`ll keep an eye on this next week, as we
could potentially see another few days straight of storms.
