.KEY MESSAGES...
* Hot and dry this weekend with typical afternoon breezes. Prepare
for heat impacts if planning outdoor activities this weekend.
* Afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely return next week with
best chances of storms in NE California and NW Nevada.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Seasonably hot weather continues this weekend as high
temperatures increase into the mid-upper 90s across western
Nevada with 80s for Sierra communities. Areas of moderate HeatRisk
are possible through the weekend across western Nevada and
northeastern California. Sunday and Monday are looking to be the
warmest days before highs settle back into the lower 90s for
western Nevada by the middle of next week.
Afternoon heating will lead to the development of cumulus build-
ups, bringing a 10-15% chance of a few showers or an isolated
thunderstorm, mainly across northern Mono, southern Lyon, and
Mineral counties today.
Chances for thunderstorms increase across NE CA and NW NV early
next week as a closed low begins to push onshore across central
CA. Storms on Monday could be higher-based, faster moving storms
which could produce some dry lightning strikes. Coverage and
chances increase on Tuesday (15-25% chance) with showers and
storms reaching as far south as the Tahoe Basin. These storms look
to transition to more of a hybrid wet/dry mix. Fire weather
concerns are a possibility due to new lightning ignitions along
with an environment supporting strong outflows (DCAPE ~2000 J/kg).
Looking ahead to Independence Day Weekend, temperatures are
trending near average with a potential for daily chances of
afternoon showers and thunderstorms as another shortwave trough
attempts to track through the region. Fuentes

.AVIATION...
Widespread VFR conditions and typical west breezes in the afternoon
prevail this weekend. 10-15% chance of a few showers or an
isolated thunderstorm south of KMEV and north of KMMH.
Thunderstorm impacts become more likely next week, especially
across NE California and far NW Nevada.
Afternoon heat may present density altitude impacts as western
Nevada terminals experience highs in the mid to upper 90s this
weekend with KNFL/KLOL approaching 100 degrees Sunday and Monday.
