Warnings and Heat Advisories in effect through this evening.

* Isolated shower and thunderstorm activity possible in the

.DISCUSSION...Today through Wednesday.

One final day of temperatures ranging 4 to 8 degrees above seasonal
normals today, as the center of a high pressure system sits directly
over the Desert Southwest. Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories
cover the forecast area through this evening as a result. With this
heat event, higher elevations will struggle to see much in the way
of heat relief, compared to the valleys. Temperatures will cool
heading into the weekend as troughing pushes into our forecast area.
Ensure that you`re hydrating, avoiding outdoor activities during the
heat of the day, and checking on your neighbors and loved ones.

A few weak showers and isolated thunderstorms formed on the crests
of the Sierra Nevada and White Mountains yesterday afternoon. We can
expect similar activity this afternoon, but to a larger areal
extent. High resolution Convective Allowing Models are in agreement
showing isolated activity across northern Inyo, Esmeralda, and south-
central Nye counties today. Moisture is meager in these locations,
so precipitation will likely be light (or fall as virga), with
frequent lightning and gusty winds being the primary concerns.
Additionally, moisture pushing northward up Arizona and the Colorado
River Valley today, coupled with daytime instability, will increase
chances for isolated storms in eastern Mohave County. PWATs continue
to increase in value and coverage through the end of the work week,
with PoPs climbing across Mohave County and spreading into Lincoln,
eastern Clark, and eastern San Bernardino counties. Of note, PoPs
have retreated quite a bit further east, compared to previous
forecast packages, with much less confidence in the westward extent
of precipitation chances. Current 00Z CAMs extend through 5 PM on
Thursday, with very few solutions indicating convection as far west
as southern Nevada or southeastern California. Primary hazards with
convection through Saturday include frequent lightning, gusty winds,
and locally heavy rainfall.

PWATs will climb for our eastern zones, while dry air and single-
digit afternoon relative humidities persist for our western zones.
This sharp moisture gradient could result in dry thunderstorm
activity, which would combine with critically dry fuels to increase
the risk of fire starts and spreads. People are encouraged not to
recreate with sparks or flames, to safely and fully discard
cigarette butts, and ensure vehicle chains are not dragging on
concrete.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Light
winds this morning shift to the southwest and become gusty
starting late morning, lasting through the afternoon. Gusts of
around 20 knots are possible. Winds decrease to less than 10 knots
but remain southwesterly after sunset. Temperatures exceed 100
degrees between 18z and 05z, with a peak around 110 degrees.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Breezy southerly to
southwesterly winds pick up across much of the area this afternoon
and evening. Gusts between 15 and 25 knots are possible.
Thunderstorms develop over the southern Great Basin and high
terrain in Inyo County this afternoon. Gusty outflow winds from
storms over the White Mountains and Sierra may reach KBIH, causing
temporary changes in wind speed and direction. Precipitation
chances wane around sunset, with dry conditions prevailing
overnight.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
