.KEY MESSAGES...
* Light haze with occasional pockets of wildfire smoke from fires in
California may develop tonight into Sunday morning.
* Moderate to major HeatRisk continues through Tuesday, with a
chance of triple-digit highs in lower western Nevada valleys and a
notable chance of 90s in Sierra valleys Monday.
* Isolated thunderstorms possible midweek; increasing winds late
week.

.DISCUSSION...
Smoke and haze will linger across parts of Alpine, Mono and Douglas
counties as westerly breezes loft smoky plumes from fires in
California. Fire behavior will dictate how much smoke flows into the
region today. Afternoon breezes today should help to mix the smoky
conditions out, but could build back during the late evening as
winds taper.
Persistent ridging over the coastal waters of the northwestern
Pacific will migrate closer to the California coast today into early
week, bringing about climbing temperatures. Monday and Tuesday the
leeside valleys and Basin and Range will likely see 100 degrees or
very near 100 degrees. This ridging pattern will undergo a bit of a
breakdown Tuesday, when a shortwave starts to make its way toward
the Oregon coast. This feature will be the next potential weather-
maker for this region. Showers and storms may develop over the
Sierra Tuesday evening, but chances are less than 10%.
As the shortwave digs south into Wednesday, increasing westerly
winds will have our afternoon breezes amplifying and containing
gusts up to 35 mph. Winds will still be breezy for Thursday, but
only contain gusts around 30 mph. The breezy winds will also usher
in a slight cooling trend to close out the week. HRICH

.AVIATION...
* Similar to yesterday, smoke and haze may be present for KMMH and
KBAN with slantwise visibility reductions possible. Increasing
afternoon breezes may help to mix the smoke out. Otherwise, expect
VFR conditions across all terminals. Daily afternoon breezes will
remain lighter with gusts only reaching 15-20 kts. HRICH
