Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1256 AM PDT Wed Oct 15 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Cold morning temperatures are expected today and tomorrow across
the Owens Valley and Lincoln County, with the first freezes of
  the season expected.

* Dry and pleasant weather conditions are expected through the
weekend, with cool temperatures gradually returning to seasonal
  normals.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through early next week.

Cold H500 low responsible for pockets of rain and mountain snow
across much of the region Tuesday is currently centered near
Mammoth, CA and will gradually track through central Nevada this
morning. Drier air has begun to filter into the region, though
some lingering showers continue across Lincoln County associated
with a weakening southerly moisture plume extending back into the
Pacific. As the low shifts east, precipitation chances will end
for all areas except the southern Great Basin where a few light
showers may develop under the -25C cold pool aloft this afternoon,
with perhaps a few lightning strikes as well.

With cool air settling over the region, the first freeze of the
season is already ongoing across Owens Valley where Bishop is
currently reporting 32F at 1AM and temps will continue to fall
through the morning hours. As skies clear out later today and
tonight, Lincoln County will be favored for their first freeze by
Thursday morning. Elsewhere, seasonably cool temps can be expected
with southwesterly afternoon breezes.

As the low departs Thursday, a slow moderation of temperatures is
expected through Friday, with temperatures returning to near
seasonable normals by the weekend. Meanwhile, extended range
guidance hints at renewed troughing for the early part of next
week which could bring a return of gusty winds and cooling
temperatures to the region.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast
Package...Decreasing clouds are expected through the remainder of
the early morning hours with decreasing south-southwesterly
winds. Breezy conditions will resume after sunrise with
southwesterly gusts to 20 knots expected. A shift to more
northwesterly wind directions is likely after 21z with speeds
gradually dropping off. Otherwise, mostly clear skies expected.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Decreasing clouds
expected through the early morning hours as storm system gradually
exits the region. Breezy west-southwest winds are expected through
the day across the Mojave Desert TAF sites, with winds shifting
to the north or northwest during the afternoon hours. Further
north near KBIH, patchy morning fog will be possible but
otherwise quickly clearing skies with light northerly winds
expected.

&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
