Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ
121 PM MST Fri Apr 11 2025

.SYNOPSIS...Windy conditions will develop this weekend as high
pressure slowly moves east of the state. More record high temperatures
could be broken Saturday. Temperatures will begin to slowly cool
down later in the weekend but remain well above average through
next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...High pressure is peaking over the region today before
weakening slightly and shifting southeast as a trough moves by to
our north this weekend. Though it will be just a couple degrees
cooler on Saturday, this will still be in record territory for
places like Prescott and Winslow and near-record at many other
locations. The other story as the trough moves by to our north
will be elevated southwest winds on Saturday and Sunday
afternoons, along with very low humidity in the 5-10% range.
Sustained speeds in the 15-25 mph range with gusts 30-40 mph are
forecast. Red Flag Warnings have been issued for parts of the
Little Colorado River Valley and White Mountains for both Saturday
and Sunday, see the Fire Weather section below for additional
details.

Monday - lighter winds are expected as the trough passes east of
the region. High temperatures will remain around 10 degrees above
normal for mid April.

Tuesday - much of the available model data continues to indicate
a weakening trough moving northeastward across northern Arizona.
This should bring some additional cloud cover as well as the
possibility for some light rain showers to the northern 1/3 of the
state. PoPs are still only in the 10-20% range for these areas.
Temperatures cool a few degrees with the passage of this weak
wave, but still remain above normal. Another low is forecast to be
located off the coast of southern California next Wed/Thu,
possibly moving east into our region and bringing unsettled
weather toward next Friday or Saturday. A small amount of ensemble
solutions even have a northern stream system getting involved by
next weekend per the model cluster tool, still lots of uncertainty
in this time period so stay tuned.

&&

.AVIATION...Friday 11/18Z through Saturday 12/18Z...VFR
conditions expected. Daytime winds are SW 5-15 kts. Overnight winds
VRB at 10 kts or less.

OUTLOOK...Saturday 12/18Z through Monday 14/18Z...Continued VFR
conditions expected. Daytime winds are SW 10-20 kts with gusts up to
35 kts on Saturday and Sunday. Winds remain elevated 10-15 kts
northeast of terrain features overnight Saturday, VRB at less than
10 kts otherwise.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Saturday and Sunday...Red Flag Warning issued for
Saturday and Sunday in the Little Colorado River Valley in Navajo
and Apache Counties and the White Mountains. Near-critical fire
weather conditions elsewhere. Dry and warm with high temperatures
10-20 degrees above normal. Minimum RH at or below 10% each afternoon.
Winds will be southwest 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph on
Saturday and Sunday.

Monday through Wednesday...Dry and warm. Slight chance of light
showers in far northern AZ on Tuesday. Minimum RH will be at or
below 15% each afternoon. Winds are variable at 10 mph or less on
Monday, then southwest through west 10-20 mph on Tuesday and
Wednesday.
