...New SHORT TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Saturday)
Issued at 955 PM CDT THU APR 17 2025

No major changes to the short term as high pressure continues to
hold firm over the area.

Previous short-term discussion:
(This evening through Friday)
Issued at 121 PM CDT THU APR 17 2025

This afternoon.

Broad mid-level troughing extends from over Eastern Mexico
northward to over the Ozarks while troughing persists off the
Northeast Coast and a shortwave trough digs southeast over
portions of Nevada and Utah. Elongated surface high pressure
continues to extend from across the Eastern Great Lakes southward
to across much of the Southeastern States.

High clouds will move over the area this afternoon from the
northwest while dry conditions will persist areawide. Winds will
become southeast through the day with speeds from 6-12 mph. The
warming trend will continue as readings top out from the upper 70s
in the higher terrain east to the lower 80s south and west.

Tonight.

Amplified longwave ridging will extend from over the Northwest
Gulf northward to over the Southern Ohio River Valley overnight
while troughing over the Central Intermountain West becomes more
pronounced. Surface high pressure will consolidate across the
Carolinas and into the Mid-Atlantic Region overnight while lower
pressure becomes more defined across the Central Plains.

Expect fair skies with high clouds continuing to move southeast
over the area tonight. Winds will become more southerly with
speeds from 4-8 mph. Low temperatures will range from the upper
40s northeast to the mid 50s west.

Friday.

Mid-level amplified longwave ridging will become extended from
over the Central Gulf Coast northeast to over the Mid-Atlantic
Region while positive-tilted longwave troughing will extend from
South-Central Canada southwest to over the Four Corners States.
Surface high pressure will consolidate further off the Eastern
Seaboard while a slow moving surface cold front extends from
Western Oklahoma northeast to near Chicago with a dryline present
from Western Oklahoma south across Western Texas.

High clouds will continue to move southeast over the area on
Friday as the warming trend endures. Winds will be from the south
from 7-14 mph. High temperatures will range from the lower 80s in
the higher terrain east to readings in the upper 80s southwest.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday night through next Wednesday)
Issued at 1247 PM CDT THU APR 17 2025

Very little change with this long term forecast update. We continue
with our warming trend as we head into the weekend with high temps
settling into the mid to upper 80s. Over the weekend, the ridge axis
will shift east as an upper trough digs across the Southern Plains.
Southerly flow will increase late this weekend as the pressure
gradient tightens in response to a deepening surface low. This will
lead to a gradual increase in moisture as well as breezy conditions
at times. Rain returns to the forecast as an associated cold front
slides our way late Sunday into Monday, eventually stalling
somewhere across Central AL. As the boundary meanders around, a few
upper level shortwaves will pass through the region, keeping rain
chances going. While instability doesn`t look too impressive at this
time, there may still be enough to support a few thunderstorms each
afternoon as we reach peak heating. Rain chances look to generally
stay below an inch. Latest ensemble guidance only suggests a low
chance of rainfall amounts over 2".

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 614 PM CDT THU APR 17 2025

VFR conditions will prevail through this cycle. Only a few high
clouds are expected overnight with light winds. High clouds will
continue to move over the area from the west on Friday with winds
of 7 to 12 kts.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...

Dry conditions will remain in place through late this weekend. Min
RH values today will drop to around 20-25% along with southerly
winds from 5-10 MPH. Similar conditions are in store for Friday with
RHs down to around 25-30%. Moisture will then begin to increase over
the weekend ahead of our next cold front on Monday. Rain chances
return early Monday morning and hang around the much of the work
week.
