Numerous showers continue to pop up throughout the Tennessee
Valley and move southeastward as a response to daytime heating,
bringing a low- medium chance of lightning and small hail (pea to
dime sized). Soils are saturated after last nights rainfall,
therefore, runoff could cause ponding of water in low lying areas
or areas of poor drainage. Especially in areas such as Cullman,
southern Marshall, and southern DeKalb Counties. Low to medium
chances (30-50%) of showers persist through the evening hours
before coming to an end overnight.

Tonight, an upper level ridge begins to move in from the west and
NVA will result in dry conditions throughout the area. Clouds are
forecast to clear out by the morning hours as sfc high pressure
influences the area from the northwest. NNW winds are forecast to
be around 5-10 mph with gusts up to 15 mph. Post-frontal low
temperatures are forecast to drop into the upper 30s to lower 40s.

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Sunday)

Remaining clouds and showers will end and shift southeast of the
area this evening. We will have another cool night with lows in
the upper 30s to around 40. Winds should keep frost limited at
this point. The amplified upper trough will continue to shift
east this weekend, inducing deep layer north-northwest flow. At
the surface and 8h, a ridge of high pressure will drop southeast
into the upper OH and TN valleys Saturday and to the southeast
Coast and Gulf of America Sunday. Southwest flow will increase as
a result on Sunday inducing fairly strong warm air advection. A
thermal ridge at 8h will poke temperatures into the middle teens
across the mid South and TN valley. This should result in high
temperatures climbing back well into the 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through Thursday)

Surface high pressure will begin to push east Sunday night as a
mid level low develops in the northern Plains. The low pressure
is forecast to move through the Great Lakes Region on Monday.
The low will be a little too far away to trigger any significant
weather locally thus very low rain chances have been maintained
with the frontal passage associated with the low pressure. An
uptick in winds and clouds will likely be the main indicator of
the frontal passage. Ahead of the front, highs look to push into
the low 80s.

Tuesday and Wednesday will see milder conditions as we again take
on post frontal NW flow. Temps will remain in the high 60s with
gusty winds still possible Tuesday afternoon as the pressure
gradient behind the front remain tight. Our next bout of
interesting weather looks to arrive mid day Thursday with a slight
uptick in rain chances as a surface low pressure system looks to
move across the TN Valley. While its a little early to nail down
specifics, there are no strong indicators in the models for severe
weather at this time.

VFR flight weather conditions (ceilings above 030agl) are
anticipated for most of north AL. However, ceilings may drop below
030agl (MVFR) briefly this afternoon in southern middle TN and
far northeast AL. Scattered SHRA and perhaps a TSRA or two will
develop this afternoon but should dissipate quickly by sunset
(~00Z).
