Squall watch in effect

James Bay - southern half

Issued 9:29 PM EDT 30 July 2026 A low pressure system over southern Hudson Bay is combining with an unstable environment creating favourable conditions for the development of severe thunderstorms.

These thunderstorms will be capable of producing squalls with gusts up to 40 kts, frequent lightning, hail and poor visibility.

Poor to very poor visibility may contribute to voyage delays and make marine navigation hazardous. Large hail can damage vessels and cause injury. Vessels without lightning protection should make their way to shore immediately. Mariners are advised to prepare for potential squalls. Vulnerable vessels are most at risk and should seek safe harbour if underway. Consider delaying or postponing travel in areas under the Squall Watch.
