* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations 8 to 16 inches between 7000 and 9000 feet and 1 to 2 feet above 9000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Eastern Sierra Slopes. * WHEN...From 5 PM Monday to 5 AM PDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel may become difficult on Highway 168 west of Bishop due to icy and snow packed roads. Whitney Portal will observe sharp deterioration in conditions with extreme danger to hikers and campers unprepared for the winter weather. Information: Persons should consider delaying travel in the Sierra. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. |
