.KEY MESSAGES...

- The heat wave will persist through the end of the work week,
  with afternoon heat indices reaching from around 105 to 110+
  degrees each day, and an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect.

- Low end chances of showers and storms return to the forecast
  Thursday (20-30%) and Friday (30-40%), with 30-50% chances
  persisting into the weekend and Monday.

A stagnant dome of high pressure over the southeast U.S. will
continue to keep very hot and humid air across the PAH forecast area
the rest the week.  High temperatures will continue to be mostly in
the middle 90s with dew points in the middle to upper 70s through
Friday.  Max heat index readings today through Thursday will range
from 105 to possibly near 115 degrees.

By Thursday and even more so Friday, the center of the high
will be pushing eastward, allowing weak perturbations in the
upper flow to move over the middle Mississippi and lower Ohio
valleys. This will give our area 20-30% chances of showers and
storms Thursday afternoon and evening, and 30-40% chances Friday
afternoon and night. Chances of 30-50% will continue through
the weekend into Monday, with the highest chances during the
afternoon/early evening hours.

The additional clouds and scattered showers and storms will
bring temperatures down a couple of degrees, and heat indices
will trend down a little over the weekend. Heat index readings
Saturday and Sunday will be mostly in the 100 to 105 degrees.
Rain chances Monday are associated with a potential cold front,
and depending on the timing, conditions will become a little
more tolerable early next week.
