.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Wednesday)
Issued at 333 AM EDT Tue Jun 30 2026

A strong upper level ridge is centered over the eastern CONUS and
will continue to stretch eastward through the short term period. The
influence of the ridge will keep hot conditions in place across
north and central Georgia. Low temperatures this morning will
largely be in the mid to upper 70s, which are about 7-13 degrees
above daily normals. High temperatures will once again peak between
94-97 degrees across the majority of the area, with cooler
temperatures only in the higher elevations of far northeast Georgia.
The combination of these temperatures and dewpoints in the low to
mid 70s will lead to heat index values in the mid to upper 100s
everywhere except the far northeast mountains and portions of far
east Georgia. Because of this, a Heat Advisory is once again in
effect from 12 PM through 8 PM EDT today. Those planning to spend
time outdoors should take necessary precautions, drink plenty of
fluids, and take frequent breaks in the shade and air conditioning.

The heat and low-level moisture will combine for strong instability
this afternoon, with SBCAPE values increasing to between 2500-3000
J/kg. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will develop this
afternoon, with highest chances (30-50%) in west-central Georgia.
The aforementioned instability, fairly steep low-level lapse rates,
higher DCAPE, and effective-layer shear values between 25-30 kts
will support the potential for a few stronger storms and
organization of said storms into clusters. PWAT values between 1.6-
1.9 inches will also contribute to precipitation loading in storm
downdrafts. Thus, strong to severe storms that develop will be
capable of producing downbursts with damaging wind gusts, heavy
rainfall, and frequent lightning. In a highly unstable environment,
outflows from storms will generate additional showers and storms.
PoPs will begin to gradually diminish after sunset with the loss of
daytime heating.

Temperatures will be similar across north and central Georgia on
Wednesday. However, strong mixing and relatively drier dewpoints are
forecast to keep heat index values below Heat Advisory criteria in
portions of central Georgia. This will not be the case in north
Georgia, where dewpoints will remain in the low to mid 70s. Another
Heat Advisory may be needed in portions of north Georgia on
Wednesday with heat indices forecast to rise into the mid 100s once
again. Chances for diurnal showers and thunderstorms will be highest
in areas along and north of I-85. With strong diurnal instability
and increased effective-layer shear shifting into north Georgia on
Wednesday afternoon, a few stronger storms capable of gusty
downburst winds will be possible, and the potential for severe
weather will need to be monitored.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through Monday)
Issued at 333 AM EDT Tue Jun 30 2026

We are in the thick of summer which means warm temperatures and
daily chances for thunderstorms will be the theme for North and
Central Georgia heading into the holiday weekend. Mid-level ridging
will largely be centered more towards the Mid-Atlantic at the start
of the period. Latest guidance continues to trend towards gradual
`dampening` of this ridge pattern, though whether it fully breaks
down by late weekend into early next week still remains uncertain at
this time. Regardless, expect diurnally driven thunderstorms,
elevated temperatures and heat indices each day through the
weekend.

Low chances (15-30%) for afternoon thunderstorms will be focused
mainly over North Georgia through the remainder of the work week
given our placement relative to the ridge. But by the holiday
weekend, as the ridge dampens and extends back westward, we will see
a slight uptick in thunderstorm potential and coverage. As per
usual, gusty winds and frequent lightning will be the primary
hazards with any thunderstorms that occur. Forecast high and low
temperatures are forecast to stay at or above normal for the next 5-
7 days. Outside of the North Georgia mountains, forecast highs
through the weekend will be in the 90s with lows in the upper 60s to
mid 70s. Heat indices will also remain in the mid/upper 90s to low
100s through the period. There remains a potential that additional
heat headlines may be warranted in the coming days. Regardless, take
precautions if you are spending any amount of time outdoors. Stay
hydrated, take frequent breaks, and wear appropriate clothing. And
don`t forget about your pets! If it`s too hot for you, it`s too hot
for them.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 149 AM EDT Tue Jun 30 2026

SHRA/TSRA has come to an end across the area, giving way to VFR
conditions as the period begins. Winds will be light and variable
during the early morning hours, becoming NE/E at 4-7 kts after
14-15Z. A scattered cu field between 035-050 will develop once
again after 15Z and persist through the afternoon. Scattered
diurnal convection is expected in the afternoon, warranting a
PROB30 for -TSRA at ATL from 19-23Z. Coverage of storms is
forecast to be greatest in west-central Georgia near CSG.

//ATL Confidence...06Z Update...
Medium confidence on timing and placement of afternoon TSRA.
High confidence on all other elements.
