.KEY MESSAGES...

* Breezy-to-gusty afternoons continue through the work week as
temperatures gradually climb back toward seasonal normals.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Today through Sunday.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern Sierra crest and
northern Owens Valley produced wind gusts generally between 25 and
35 mph last night as the center of a shortwave pushed through the
southern Great Basin. The center of the shortwave will continue to
push eastward through southern Nevada through the overnight hours
into this morning, resulting in slight (0 to 10 percent) chances of
high-based showers and thunderstorms across Inyo, southern Nye, and
Lincoln counties. Otherwise, the western CONUS will remain situated
beneath an upper-level trough through the work week. This pattern is
conducive for shortwave troughs to move through the flow aloft,
bringing with them breezy afternoons. In addition to breezy
conditions, the region will remain quite dry, so those recreating
outdoors with sparks or flames (charcoal grills, safe-and-sane
fireworks, target practice) are encouraged to exercise caution and
ensure there is a bucket of water nearby to prevent any fire starts.
Temperatures will gradually climb through the week, reaching near-
normal readings by Independence Day. Late-week, ridging builds back
over northern Mexico and the southern United States, allowing
temperatures to climb above-normal for the latter half of the
holiday weekend.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Winds
will generally remain light, 10 knots or less, and will follow
typical, daily directional trends. The exception will be late this
afternoon into the evening hours when southeasterly winds will
push 10 knots with the occasional 15 to 20 knot thermally induced
wind gust impacting the terminal. Winds will swing around to the
southwest late this evening, with southwesterly winds persisting
through the overnight period. VFR conditions will prevail with no
operationally significant cloud cover, though slantwise visibility
reductions due to wildfire smoke along the Mormon Mesa corridor
will persist.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package... Light showers and
virga will continue to push through Lincoln County, clearing out
of the area later this morning. Erratic breezy winds will be
possible around these showers. Otherwise, winds across the region
will generally follow typical diurnal directional trends with
sustained speeds around 6 to 12 knots. One exception is the
Colorado River Valley, where breezy southerly winds will pick up
around mid- morning, continuing through later this afternoon
before decreasing. The other exception is the western Mojave
Desert, where gusty west winds will pick up during the evening
hours. VFR conditions will prevail with no operational significant
cloud cover expected. However, slantwise visibility reductions
due to wildfire smoke can be expected at times.
