.KEY MESSAGES...

  impacts in the afternoons.

* A warming trend is favored for the holiday weekend with
potential for thunderstorms in the Sierra.

.DISCUSSION...

Today will feature fewer clouds and shower chances than yesterday,
and still, a less than 5% chance for showers lingers over the
Sierra. We will see a warmup of a few degrees across the region,
but the mild seasonal airmass under a general troughing pattern
will keep temperatures in check. Breezy afternoons will be part
of the pattern this week, with a slight uptick in breezes for
today and Thursday. We could see a few showers over the Sierra
each afternoon as the chances remain under 10% all through the
week.

As the trough pattern shifts late week, heat will once again build
back in over the holiday weekend. As such, a return to Minor with
isolated moderate HeatRisk will emerge into the weekend. With
recent dry conditions and afternoon breezes, it is advised to
avoid any activity that may cause a spark. Additionally, if you
have plans to be outdoors this weekend, particularly in the
Sierra, make sure to check your forecast for the latest updates
and keep an eye to the sky since there will be a nonzero chance
for showers and storms each day. HRICH
